Trenbolone and Libido: Why It Goes Both Ways

📅 August 21, 2026 ⏱️ 3 min read ✍️ Team TPS

Trenbolone’s effect on libido is genuinely unpredictable: some users report a marked increase, others report it disappearing entirely. Both are common, and the mechanism explains why.

Why it goes both ways

Trenbolone is powerfully androgenic, and androgen drives libido. That accounts for the users who report a sharp increase, particularly early.

But trenbolone is also progestogenic, and progestogenic activity can raise prolactin. Elevated prolactin suppresses libido and causes erectile difficulty, the exact opposite effect, from the same compound.

Which one you get depends on how you respond, and it can change over a run.

The prolactin route is the common failure

This is where people get stuck. Libido drops, they assume oestrogen, they take an aromatase inhibitor, and nothing improves, because prolactin does not respond to an AI at all.

A prolactin blood test settles it in one step. If it is elevated, a dopamine agonist is the tool. See cabergoline and prolactin.

The oestrogen route

Trenbolone does not aromatise, so it does not raise oestrogen itself. But it is run alongside a testosterone base that does.

Crashed oestrogen is a very common cause of no libido, and people cause it by running an AI pre-emptively. Oestrogen too low produces flat mood, dry joints and no drive. See aromatase inhibitors compared.

Work through it in order

Test oestradiol (sensitive assay) and prolactin before changing anything. The two produce overlapping symptoms and opposite treatments, and guessing wrong wastes weeks. See bloodwork: what to test.

Only if both are in range is a PDE5 inhibitor treating anything real rather than masking a hormonal cause. See sildenafil vs tadalafil. If the problem is desire rather than function, that is a different mechanism again, PT-141.

The wider point

Trenbolone is a compound where the side effects are pronounced and the individual variation is large. Sleep disruption, night sweats and mood effects are reported as consistently as the libido changes.

See trenbolone acetate vs enanthate. Note that the short ester is the sensible way to find out how you respond, because you can stop and be largely clear within days.
