5-Amino-1MQ: Blocking the Enzyme That Eats NAD+
5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide, despite being sold among them. It is a small molecule that works by blocking an enzyme, and the mechanism is genuinely different from anything else in the fat loss category.
What it does
5-Amino-1MQ inhibits NNMT, nicotinamide N-methyltransferase, an enzyme found at high levels in fat tissue.
NNMT consumes NAD+ precursors. Inhibiting it has two proposed effects: more NAD+ available for cellular energy metabolism, and a shift in how fat cells handle storage.
Why NAD+ keeps coming up
NAD+ is central to cellular energy production and declines with age. Raising it is the mechanism behind an entire category of longevity compounds. See NAD+ and MOTS-c.
5-Amino-1MQ approaches the same target from the other direction: rather than supplying more NAD+, it reduces what is being consumed.
The muscle claim
Alongside fat loss, NNMT inhibition has been associated in research with improved muscle stem cell function. That combination, fat reduction without muscle cost, is what makes it interesting relative to compounds where catabolism is the trade, such as T3.
Oral, which is unusual here
Being a small molecule rather than a peptide, it survives digestion and is taken orally. No injection, no reconstitution, no cold chain. That is a real practical advantage.
The evidence, honestly
Animal and cell research, essentially no human trials. The mechanism is well characterised and the preclinical results are consistent, but nobody can tell you what it does in a person over months because that work has not been done.
It is early rather than discredited, a different position from cardarine, where the concern is specific findings rather than absence of data.
Where it fits
Someone interested in the NAD+ pathway who wants an oral option and understands they are early to it. Not a replacement for a deficit, and not in the same evidence bracket as the GLP-1 compounds.
