Anadrol (Oxymetholone): The Blunt Instrument
Anadrol is the bluntest instrument in the oral category. Oxymetholone adds weight faster than almost anything else available, and it extracts a price for it that is not subtle.
What it is
Anadrol is oxymetholone, a 17-alpha-alkylated oral derived from DHT. Despite that parentage it behaves nothing like the dry DHT orals: it produces substantial water retention and oestrogenic effects, which is unusual and not fully explained by aromatisation alone.
Why the weight moves so fast
Users routinely report several kilos inside a fortnight. Much of that is water, and it leaves when the compound does.
The strength increase is real and the training effect is genuine, but anyone judging progress by the scale is measuring mostly fluid. This is the same pattern as dianabol, only more pronounced.
The liver
Oxymetholone is one of the more hepatotoxic compounds in regular use. It is in the same conversation as superdrol rather than the milder orals, and runs are kept short for that reason alone.
Stacking it with another alkylated oral is how people get into genuine trouble.
Blood pressure and appetite
The water retention drives blood pressure, and anadrol has a reputation for pushing it hard. It also suppresses appetite in many users, awkward for a compound used almost exclusively in a surplus.
Headaches and lethargy are commonly reported and usually track blood pressure rather than the compound directly.
Oestrogen control is complicated here
Oxymetholone’s oestrogenic effects do not respond predictably to an aromatase inhibitor, because they are not purely aromatisation-driven. That surprises people who assume the usual tool applies.
See aromatase inhibitors compared for what an AI does and does not address.
Where it fits
A short kickstart in a surplus, alongside a testosterone base, in someone experienced who is monitoring blood pressure and liver markers. Not a first oral, not a cutting compound, and not something to run long.
