Blood Pressure on Cycle, and Where Telmisartan Fits

📅 July 27, 2026 ⏱️ 2 min read ✍️ Team TPS

Blood pressure is the most commonly ignored problem on cycle, and it is the one most likely to cause lasting harm.

Why it rises

Several mechanisms stack. Aromatising compounds cause fluid retention, which raises volume. Many compounds raise haematocrit, thickening the blood. Some have direct vascular effects. Add the training and the eating that accompany a bulk, and pressure climbs from several directions at once.

Anadrol and dianabol are the notorious offenders; boldenone raises pressure primarily through red cell count.

What telmisartan does

Telmisartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker. It blocks the receptor that angiotensin II acts on, relaxing blood vessels and lowering pressure.

It is favoured in this context for its long half-life: genuinely 24-hour coverage from one dose, and because it has partial PPAR-gamma activity, which is associated with favourable metabolic effects. That is unusual for a blood pressure medication.

The part that gets skipped

You cannot manage what you do not measure, and blood pressure produces no reliable symptoms until it is high enough to be dangerous. Headaches are a poor guide.

A home monitor costs very little. Measure sitting, rested, several times across a week, a single reading in a stressful moment tells you nothing.

Treating the cause first

If pressure is being driven by fluid retention from an aromatising compound, controlling oestrogen properly addresses the cause rather than the symptom. See aromatase inhibitors compared. If it is driven by haematocrit, that is a different problem with a different answer.

Medicating around a compound you could adjust is the wrong order of operations.

This is a real medicine

Telmisartan is prescription medication with genuine contraindications and interactions. Anyone managing blood pressure should be doing it with a doctor who knows the full picture, and a persistently high reading is a reason to seek medical advice rather than self-treat.
