Somatropin is recombinant human growth hormone, a 191 amino acid single chain polypeptide with the identical sequence to the growth hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary. Rather than being extracted from human tissue, it is produced by inserting the human growth hormone gene into a host cell line (typically a strain of E. coli), which then expresses the protein at scale. The "rDNA origin" mark on the label is shorthand for this process.
Because the amino acid sequence matches endogenous hGH exactly, the recombinant protein binds the same growth hormone receptor and triggers the same downstream signalling cascades in the research literature. Two mechanisms dominate the published work: direct receptor activation across peripheral tissues, and hepatic release of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), which mediates a large portion of what is broadly labelled the "growth hormone effect".
Research applications for somatropin span several areas. In the body composition literature it has been examined for its effects on lean mass, adipose tissue and lipolysis via the JAK-STAT and PI3K-Akt pathways. In tissue repair work, IGF-1 driven anabolic signalling has been studied in muscle, connective tissue and skin fibroblast populations. Metabolic studies have looked at glucose handling, free fatty acid mobilisation and hepatic glucose output. There is also a body of work on sleep architecture, with growth hormone secretion showing a well characterised pulse during slow wave sleep in reference subjects.
The 30 IU loading in this pen equates to 10mg of somatropin, using the conventional 3 IU per mg conversion. The pen is graduated so that 10 units on the dial dispenses 1 IU (roughly 0.33mg), giving 30 clean 10 unit draws before the pen runs dry. Sub-unit dosing is possible by dialling smaller increments and reading them off the window.
The pen format
This is where SerenQ does things differently. Instead of ten lyophilised vials and a separate bacteriostatic water ampoule, the somatropin arrives pre-dissolved in a stabilised solution and pre-loaded into a graduated injection pen with a dial and a dose window. Every dial setting delivers a consistent, verifiable volume, and every unit on the dial holds the same 0.1 IU of somatropin.

Handling and storage

30iu or 100iu, and how the sizes differ
The iu figure describes the total activity in the cartridge, not the strength of a dose. A 30iu pen holds 30 international units in total; the 100iu pen holds more. Both are dialled in units of volume.
That matters because moving between them and keeping the same dial number does not continue your previous routine, it changes the amount delivered, with nothing visible on the dial to tell you. Work out the per-unit figure for the pen in front of you.
The 100iu pen is the better cost-per-iu proposition with fewer cartridge changes; the smaller one limits how long a single cartridge stays in use and suits anyone assessing tolerance first. An opened cartridge is on a clock, so a large pen used slowly can outlive its own in-use window.
Against the secretagogues: these pens supply growth hormone itself. The Ipamorelin + CJC-1295 pen asks your own pituitary for more instead, a smaller effect, and a different proposition entirely.
